The Jeep Cherokee (KL) is a compact crossover SUV with unibody construction that revived the Cherokee name for the 2014 model year after it replaced the Jeep Liberty. It was offered with front-wheel drive or several four-wheel-drive systems, including the off-road Trailhawk version. Production of this model ended after the 2023 model year. Below, each Jeep Cherokee model year from 2014 to 2023 sits on the same scale, which makes the noisy years and the quiet years easy to spot.

Why these years stand out

2014: most complaints. The 2014 Jeep Cherokee scored 1485 complaints per 100,000 sold, 2.1 times the model average. Of its 2,650 complaints, 1,995 involve the engine or transmission, and the parts named most often are power train (1,455), engine (516) and electrical system (437). NHTSA lists 13 recalls for this model year and 3 defect investigations.

2020, 2021 and 2022: fewest complaints. The 2020 drew 334 complaints, or 246 per 100,000 sold; The 2021 drew 176 complaints, or 197 per 100,000 sold; The 2022 drew 52 complaints, or 129 per 100,000 sold. These years have been on the road at least three years, which gives owners time to report problems, so a low count means something.
